Brentwood
is 17 miles east of
London and just two miles from J28 on
the M25
Brentwood is an
ancient market town that grew up on the Roman road from London to
Colchester. It became an important coaching stage and traces of its
highway heyday still survive in its high street. It was however the
coming of the railway in 1840 that began the rapid expansion that
has continued to the present day and enabled Brentwood to engulf a
number of surrounding villages within its district boundaries and
transformed the appearance of the town itself.
Today Brentwood is a busy town conveniently situated for London and
the surrounding countryside and villages, it has a good mix of
shops, schools, businesses and recreational facilities. Brentwood has about 3,000 acres of woodland, three country parks, a large amount
of farmland and a number of very attractive villages within its
borders, yet it is only 17 miles from
London.
Road and rail connections are excellent with the M25, A12 and A127
trunk roads within the Borough and convenient, fast rail links with
London and East Anglia. Stansted, City and Southend airports are all
30 to 40 minutes drive away, with Heathrow and Gatwick airports not
much more. The Dartford Tunnel/Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and Tilbury
Docks are also within easy reach. To the east, Harwich and
Felixstowe are 90 minutes away via the A12 road.
The
main shopping area is Brentwood Town Centre, with many multiples
including Marks and Spencer, Boots, Sainsbury and Somerfield
represented. The Town Centre is also an historic centre with 3
designated Conservation Areas, incorporating several Listed
Buildings and an Ancient Monument - the St Thomas a Becket Chapel.
